Here’s a notable find in Dumaguete: a one stop hotel, restaurant, swimming pool and an ice cream parlor at the heart of the university town!
Ok, I must say that this is a departure from my usual blog entries. Last month I was washed to the shores of Dumaguete and Paula, my gracious host want me to check one of the best places to dine in this quaint university town so she brought me to Gabby’s Bistro along with some friends. The place is very much accessible just along the residential area outside the hustle and bustle of the city proper.
If the interiors and decors alone is the sole indication of how good a restaurant is, Gabby’s Bistro get top marks. Everywhere you look youll see fun written all over. You’ll be distracted by colourful decorations and brightly painted interiors. The overall retro diner theme for the interiors would definitely not bore, I also noticed that a lot of things in there are just interactive. They provide crayons to color their paper placemats to keep you busy while waiting for your orders. They have bells to ring if in case you need a waiter etc. Ambience is one thing that would keeps you going back, aside from the food.
The “feel at home” ambience is what best describes the whole place. It’s like a family house turned into a restaurant that opens it doors to their guests. Every corners of the place are personally conceptualized and you can obviously notice it through the designs of their doors, cabinets, windows, tables, couches, chairs, curtains, ceiling fans and even their trash bins!
Food is surprisingly good. I must say not just delectably good but reasonably priced compared to other places like Cebu or Manila. The kitchen and the bistro as well as the hotel is being run by the young chef Gabriel Antonio “Gabby” del Prado, who likes to create comfort gourmet cuisine for everyone to feast at. He made sure that he put signature touch on his dishes. We sampled his fried chicken and pork chops and my, we got easily filled with those yummy big portions!
After having sumptuous lunch, Gabby himself gave us a personal tour of the other areas of the Florentina property. Florentina is the family’s matriarch in which the place is named after. The entire place had been decorated by family members and you could easily noticed that the artist gene runs very strong within the family. Our next stop is the building in front of a mosaic-ed water fountain with a green solitary frog – Rana Verde
Inside the Rana Verde you can find the display of souvenir items up for sale. Another great thing about the place is that they sell home made ice cream with lots of fruit flavors to choose from!
Going to the further end of the property sits a cozy swimming pool, a lounge and a multi purpose function room just right if you are looking for a venue for private function and the likes. NOTE: the place looks really great in the evening where all the lights are lit. Just imagine yourself dipped in the relaxing cool waters as you sip anything thats readily available at the cocktail bar few steps away. The place is indeed an oasis waiting to be discovered.
Our last stop was the tour was the pride of the owner because of handful popular artists and well known personalities with the likes of VP Jojo Binay, Sen. Osmeña and Miss Liza Macuja-Elizalde stayed and liked the place.
Located in a quiet residential area in Dumaguete City, Florentina Homes/Hotel Florentina is very true to the adage “home away from home”. Florentina Homes/Hotel is a cross-cultural themed apartment-hotel complex with in-house restaurant, coffee shop, swimming pool, function rooms and all amenities you need for a long or short term stay in Dumaguete City alone or with your loved ones. The over-all design is very much unique for Dumaguete and Negros Oriental.
All rooms and apartments are designed to make you feel welcome and at home right away. The style reflects atmosphere of the owners favourite international destinations. It is your choice if you prefer the cozy Mediterranean/Spanish style or the more rustic style of Switzerland or the elegant style of Tudor apartelles. The only difficulty is in the choosing! All amenities that you need and much much more is in place to make your stay not just comfortable but a memorable one at that.
So next time you head to Dumaguete, make sure you dine in at Gabby’s Bistro, or swim at their pool or better yet, stay are their nice accommodations. I’ll do, very soon.
